Julie London

JulieJulie London (nee Peck; September 26th 1926 - October 18 20th, 2000) was an American singer and actress who toured for more than 40 years. London was a torch-singer well-known for her soft, smooth vocals. She recorded more than 30 albums of pop and jazz classics from 1955 until 1969. Her debut album "Cry me a river", which she recorded, was inducted into The Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001. London was nominated for an Golden Globe Award for 1974 for her role in Emergency as Nurse Dixie McCall. Born in Santa Rosa, California, to vaudevillian parents, London was discovered while working as an elevator operator in downtown Los Angeles, and she started her career as an actress. London's career as an actor lasted 35 years. with film in 1944 which included roles for female leads in a variety of westerns. She co-starred with Rock Hudson in The Fat Man (1951) as well as Robert Taylor and John Cassavetes in Saddle the Wind (1958) as well as with Gary Cooper in Man of the West (1958) and together with Robert Mitchum in The Wonderful Country (1959). She signed a recording contract with Liberty Records in the mid-1950s. This marked the start of her professional career in music. Her last studio album was released in 1969. She continued to be a hit as the female lead of Dixie McCall on the television show Emergency! (1972-1979), in which she was portrayed by her husband Bobby Troup. The show was created by her ex-husband Jack Webb.
