Lee Roy Selmon's life story blends family football scholarship with community service. One of the first things he did is to help his relatives. Lucious Selmon was the father of Jessie Selmon. The family raised nine kids on a Eufala farm. Two, football. He was one of the three brothers that played for Oklahoma. Three of them made All-America. The year was 1973. Lucious Jr. Dewey and Lee Roy were starters. Lee Roy is the winner of both Outland Awards as well as Lombardi Awards. He was the top lineman for all of the nation. He was awarded two championships as well as 31-1-1 during his three years as Oklahoma's main man. Selmon was a National Football Foundation Scholarship-Athlete, Selmon was awarded a scholarship for the third time in the year 1975. Selmon was awarded a degree from education. Fourth-year service in college Lee Roy devoted ten hours per week to volunteer projects. After college, he moved into Tampa and played for nine years with the Buccaneers. He made the All-Pro 3 times. After that, he began his professional career. By 1988, he became an Account Relations officer for Tampa's First Florida Bank. He was also involved with these organizations: Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. So it's not surprising that In 1982, the Junior Chamber of Commerce named Lee Roy as one of America's top 10 young men. As a student, Lee Roy was 6-2 and weighed about 256 pounds. He coached his university team in the year 1975. In 1993, he became the assistant director of Athletics at University of South Florida. He has been inducted in the College Football Hall of Fame since 1988. The Oklahoma City Chapter of the National Football Foundation in 1989 awarded its Distinguished American Award to his parents Mr. and Mrs.. Lucious Selmon Sr. Henry Bellmon was the Oklahoma Governor, who awarded this award.
